Procedure

Palladium (II) chloride (800 mg, 4.51 mmol) is added to a solution of (3R,4S,9aS)-3,4-diphenyl-octahydro-2-oxa-4a-aza-benzocyclohepten-1-one (4.5 g, 14.0 mmol) in THF (140 mL) and EtOH (160 mL). The reaction mixture is stirred for 12 hours under H2 atmosphere at 50 psi, then filtered through celite that is washed with EtOH. Removal of the solvent under reduced pressure affords the title compound m/z 144 [M+H].
