Iodomethane (0.747 mL, 11.94 mmol) was added to the mixture of 1,1′-(9H-carbazole-2,7-diyl)diethanone (1 g, 3.98 mmol) and potassium hydroxide (0.223 g, 3.98 mmol) in THF (20 mL) and stirred for overnight at room temperature. The solvent was then removed under reduced pressure and the crude was extracted with dichloromethane and washed with water. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated to get the pure product as yellow solid.
