To a DMSO (0.4 M) solution of 2-[3,4-dichloro-5-({[(1,1-dimethylethyl)(dimethyl)silyl]oxy}methyl)phenyl]ethyl methanesulfonate (1 eq.) from the previous step was added potassium cyanide (1.3 eq.). The resulting solution was stirred at 80° C. for 4 h. The reaction was then diluted with ether and quenched with water. The aqueous layer was separated and back-extracted with ether. The combined organic extracts were washed further with water and brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and the filtrate concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a pink oil.
