2-(Bromomethyl)-1-chloro-4-(2-methoxyethoxy)benzene (1 eq.) from the previous step and NMO (3 eq.) were stirred in dioxane (0.3 M) at 90° C. for 6 h. The reaction mixture was then quenched with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate and extracted with ether. The combined organic extracts were washed further with water and brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and the filtrate concentrated in vacuo. Purification of the crude product thus obtained by way of flash chromatography (SiO2, 9:1 (v/v) Hex:EtOAc→EtOAc) afforded the title compound.
