A portion (16 g) of 4,5-dihydro-2-(2-phenylethyl)-6H-imidazo[4,5,1-ij]quinolin-6-one obtained in Example 1 was suspended in ethanol (160 mL) and hydroxylamine hydrochloride (8.06 g) and pyridine (14.1 mL) were added; following stirring for 17 hrs at room temperature, the precipitating crystals were collected by filtration and washed successively with ethanol and ether to yield the titled compound as colorless crystals (12.0 g).
