Procedure
Methyl iodide (30 ml) and freshly prepared silver oxide (0.77 gm, 0.003 m) were added to N-(1',1'-dimethyl-3'-hydroxyacetonyl)-3,5-dichlorobenzamide (0.08 gm, 0.003 m) (Example 45) and the reaction mixture was refluxed for about 10 hours. Then fresh silver oxide (0.7 gm) was added and the mixture was refluxed for another 2 hours. The inorganic salts were removed by filtration, the filter cake was washed with ether and the solvents were stripped off to obtain 0.5 gm of product after recrystallization from ethylacetate and hexane.
