To a solution of estrone (18, 8.10 g, 30.0 mmol) in DMF (25 mL) were added imidazole (3.07 g, 45 mmol) and tert-butyldimethylchlorosilane (5.42 g, 36 mmol) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for 18 h and then quenched with H2O (100 mL). The precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with H2O to afford 11.4 g of 50 (99% yield), m.p. 171°-172° C.
