Combine (-)-3-phenyl-3-(2-hydroxyethyl)pyrrolidine (R,R)-di-p-anisoyltartaric acid salt (3.49 g,6.48 mmol) and acetone (20 mL), water (6 mL), and potassium carbonate (2.70 g, 19.5 mmol). Cool to 0° C. in an ice bath. After 30 minutes, add dropwise a solution of 2-methoxy-5-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl)benzoyl chloride (7.4 mmol) in acetone (20 mL). Warm to ambient temperature. After 18 hours, partition the reaction mixture between ethyl acetate and saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution. Separate the organic layer and extract with brine. Dry the organic layer over Na2SO4, filter, and evaporate in vacuo to give the title compound.
