To a stirred solution of 1-bromo-4-fluoronaphthalene (0.5 g) in 10 mL of tetrahydrofuran at -78° C. under nitrogen was added n-butyllithium (1.6M, 1.53 mL) dropwise. The solution was allowed to stir for 5 minutes, then trimethoxyborane (0.33 mL) was added dropwise. The solution was allowed to warm to room temperature and the solvent removed under reduced pressure to give a solid, dimethoxy-(4-fluoronaphth-1-yl)borane, a compound of formula (7).
