Methanol (40 ml) and 1N hydrochloric acid (100 ml) were added to 4-amino-5-chloro-N-((1-(3,3-ethylenedioxy-3-phenylpropyl)piperidin-4-yl)methyl)-2-methoxybenzamide (8.8 g), and the mixture was stirred at refluxing temperature for 1.5 hr. The reaction mixture was further stirred under ice-cooling for 1 hr, and the precipitated crystals were collected by filtration to give 6.7 g of 4-amino-5-chloro-2-methoxy-N-((1-(3-oxo-3-phenylpropyl)piperidin-4-yl)methyl)benzamide hydrochloride.
