1(t-butyldimethylsilyl)-4-(2-acetoxypropyl)-2-azetidinone (2.4 g) is dissolved in a solution of HCl in MeOH (0.25N, 10 ml) and allowed to stand 2.5 hours at room temperature. The solvent is evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue is chromatographed on silica gel to give 4-(2-acetoxypropyl)-2-azetidinone.
