Procedure
A mixture of 4.0 g (0.013 mole) of α,α-bis(4-fluorophenyl)-4-piperidinemethanol, 3.5 g (0.016 mole) of 6-bromo-N,N-dimethylhexanamide, 5.5 g (0.052 mole) of anhydrous sodium carbonate and 0.3 g (0.002 mole) of potassium iodide in 50 mL of N,N-dimethylformamide was stirred at ambient temperature for 16 h. The mixture was poured into 1 L of water and extracted twice with 250 mL of ethyl acetate. The combined ethyl acetate fractions were washed with water and brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was converted to the oxalic acid salt, and recrystallized from 2-propanol to yield 4.9 g (71%) of the title compound as a white solid, mp 157°-160° C.
