A suspension of 1.02 g of the product of Step B in 9.1 ml of formic acid containing 33% water was heated at 60° C. for 15 minutes and was reacted as in Step C of Example 3 to obtain 119 mg of racemate of syn isomer of cis 4-chloromethyl-3-[2-(2-amino-4-thiazolyl)-2-hydroxyimino-acetamido]-2-oxo-azetidine-1sulfonic acid.
