Procedure

A 1.5 g quantity of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-(3-pyrazolylimino)-2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one (Compound 34a) was dissolved in 21 ml of tetrahydrofuran. To the solution was added a solution of 21 g of sodium hydrosulfite in 63 ml of water. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with a saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated. The resulting crude product was washed with hexane, giving 1.3 g of title compound (Compound 34) as a colorless solid.
