2.87 g (21.6 mmol) aluminum trichloride were suspended in 10 ml 1,2-dichloroethane, 500 mg (4.9 mmol) acetic anhydride and 1.0 g N-(indan-2-yl)-4-fluoro-benzamide added, and the whole was stirred for 2 h at RT. The resulting mixture was poured onto ice water/HCl, extracted with dichloromethane, the organic phase was dried with Na2SO4 and evaporated.
