Lithium aluminium hydride (323 mg) was added to a mixture of ethyl 1-[4-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolylmethoxy)benzyl]-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (3.55 g), diethyl ether (25 ml), and tetrahydrofuran (25 ml) at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into a 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, which was extracted with diethyl ether. The diethyl ether layer was washed with water and then with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried (MgSO4), and then concentrated. The crystals obtained were filtrated to obtain [1-[4-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolylmethoxy)benzyl]-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]methanol (2.93 g, yield: 92%). This was recrystallized from ethyl acetate-hexane. Melting point: 100–101° C.
