Lithium aluminium hydride (1.52 g) was added to a solution of ethyl 1-(4-benzyloxybenzyl)-3-(4-benzyloxybenzyloxy)-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (11.00 g) in tetrahydrofuran (200 ml) at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for one hour. After water was added to the reaction mixture, the precipitate was removed by filtration and the filtrate was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried (MgSO4), and then concentrated. The crystals obtained were collected by filtration to yield [1-(4-benzyloxybenzyl)-3-(4-benzyloxybenzyloxy)-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]methanol (7.11 g, yield: 70%). This was recrystallized from tetrahydrofuran-hexane. Melting point: 128–129° C.
