Procedure

To a stirred solution of 1-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-2-[2-(2-methoxy-4-methoxycarbonyl phenyl)ethynyl]pyrrolidine (395 mg, 1.1 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (3 mL) was added TFA (3 mL). The resulting mixture was stirred for 1 hr. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo and made basic by the addition of sat. NaHCO3, and extracted with CHCl3. The extract was washed with H2O, dried over MgSO4, and evaporated to give 238 mg (84%) 2-[2-(2-methoxy4-methoxycarbonylphenyl) ethynyl]pyrrolidine as a yellow oil. 1H-NMR (CDCl3) δ 1.81–2.16 (4 H, m), 2.97–3.17 (2 H, m), 3.91 (6 H, s), 4.13–4.15 (1 H, m), 7.41 (1 H, d, J=8.3 Hz), 7.51 (1 H, s), 7.56 (1 H, d, J=8.3 Hz).
