Procedure

3.47 g (15 mmol) of 1-(4-nitrophenyl)imidazolidin-2-ylidene cyanamide are hydrogenated in 35 ml of methanol using hydrogen on 5% palladium on carbon. Conventional work-up gives 2.88 g of 1-(4-aminophenyl)imidazolidin-2-ylidene cyanamide in the form of a pale-brown solid (ESI: 202).
