Procedure
In 26 mL of pyridine was dissolved 1.4 g of methyl 2-(octadecanoylamino)-3-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzoyl-β-D-galactopyranosyloxy)propionate, 1.7 g of lithium iodide was added to the solution, and the resulting mixture was refluxed under nitrogen atmosphere for 4 hours. Chloroform was added to the reaction mixture, the resulting mixture was washed with 2 mol/L of hydrochloric acid, the chloroform layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The finally obtained residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (Eluent; chloroform: methanol=60:1) to obtain 940 mg of 2-(octadecanoylamino)-3-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzoyl-β-D-galactopyranosyloxy) propionic acid.
