Procedure
To a suspension of 3-(4-n-hexyloxyphenyl)propiono-hydrazide (0.92 g) in tetrahydrofuran (25 ml) and pyridine (0.84 ml) was added a solution of 4-methoxycarbonylbenzoyl chloride (0.73 g) in tetrahydrofuran (10 ml) dropwise at 5° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for 1 hour and poured into ice-water. The precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with water and dried under reduced pressure to give 1-[3-(4-n-hexyloxyphenyl)propanoyl]-2-(4-methoxycarbonylbenzoyl)hydrazine (1.43 g).
