Interm. (5-b) (30 g) in THF (250 ml) was hydrogenated with palladium on carbon (3 g) as a catalyst at room temperature for 12 hours under a 2.6 105 Pa pressure in a Parr apparatus. After uptake of H2 (1 equivalent), the catalyst was filtered through celite and the filtrate was evaporated till dryness. The product was used without further purification, yielding 31.2 g (100%) of (3-methoxyphenyl)[2-amino-5-[2-(4-chlorophenyl)-1,3-dioxolan-2-yl]phenyl]methanone (interm. 5-c).
