Reaction Steps

(0.55 mmol) of 1,1′-bis(phenylacetamido)ferrocene in 30 ml of argon-saturated ethanol (96%) were heated under argon with 2 g (35.6 mmol) of potassium hydroxide for 16 hours under reflux. After cooling, the reaction mixture was (without inert gas) diluted with 30 ml of argon-saturated water, transferred to a separating funnel and extracted a number of times with ether. The combined ether phases were dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and evaporated under argon in a high vacuum.
