The solution of 36.7 ml (0.09 mol) n-butyl lithium in 2.5 M hexane solution was slowly dropped into the solution of 11.0 g (0.09 mol) of n-butyl cyclopentadiene in 100 ml of tetrahydrofuran (THF) while being cooled with ice bath and stirred. After completion of dropping, the stirring was continued for 1 hours to yield a white clouding solution of n-butyl cyclopentadienyl lithium.
