To a suspension of 4 mmol of lithium aluminum hydride in 25 ml of anhydrous tetrahydrofuran is added 1 mmol of 9,10-dihydro-4H-furo[2,3-e]pyrrolo[1,2-a][1,4]diazepin-9-one. The mixture is refluxed for 12 hours and allowed to stand overnight. To the mixture is added dropwise 0.12 ml of water and then 6 ml of 1N sodium hydroxide. The mixture is extracted with ethyl acetate and the extract dried(Na2 SO4). The volatiles are removed in vacuo to give the desired product as a solid.
