A solution of ethyl 3-({3-oxo-4-[3-(2-pyridinylamino)propyl]-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-7-yl}sulfanyl)-3-phenylpropanoate in ethanol is treated with an equimolar amount of 1N sodium hydroxide solution. The mixture is stirred at room temperature overnight. Then, the pH is brought to neutrality with 1N hydrochloric acid, the solvent is evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue is purified by filtration through a small pad of silica gel, eluting with a mixture of dichloromethane, methanol and acetic acid.
