Ethyl 3-(3-benzyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-ethoxypropanoate (2 g, 6 mmol), 2-{4-[(tert-butoxycarbonyl}amino]phenyl}ethyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (3.6 g, 9 mmol); was solved in 2-butanone (30 ml). PEG-400 (0.8 g) and potassium carbonate (2.6 g, 19 mmol) was added and the mixture was refluxed for 8 h. Water was added, the organic layer separated and evaporated. The residue was purified on silica gel using isooctane/ethylacetate 2:1 which yielded 0.38 g (0.7 mmol) of the title product.
