Procedure
A mixture of intermediate (2-d) (0.27 mol) and potassium hydroxide (2.7 mol) in water (1000 ml) was stirred and refluxed for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled and acidified with hydrochloric acid (36%), and the resulting precipitate was filtered off, washed with water and dried, yielding 53 g (84.8%) of 4-amino-5-chloro-2,3-di-methoxybenzoic acid (intern. 2-e).
