To a solution of product from step 2 (500 mg, 1.11 mmol) in methylene chloride (10 ml) was added 4M HCl (2 ml) and the resulting mixture was stirred for 2 hours at room temperature. The solid was filtered, washed with ether to obtain 410 mg (95%) of the product as a solid. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ1.86 (m, 3H), 2.52 (m, 4H), 2.89 (m, 2H), 3.52 (m, 2H), 3.74 (s, 3H), 4.74 (m, 2H), 7.10 (d, 2H, J=8.7 Hz), 7.69 (d, 2H, J=8.7 Hz).
