15.5 g (0.059 mole) of 2-acetamidomethyl-4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-phenol are introduced at room temperature into 100 ml of chlorosulfonic acid. Stirring is continued for a further 15 minutes and the solution is stirred into ice water. The precipitate is filtered off with suction and recrystallized from toluene.
