To a solution of 2-(5-amino-2-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-dioxolane (an intermediate for the compound of Example 3, 17.3 g, 88.8 mmol) and triethylamine (27 ml, 195.4 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (30 ml) was added dropwise acetic anhydride (9.3 ml, 97.7 mmol) and then stirred for 20 hr. To the mixture was added brine and then extracted with CH2Cl2, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give 2-(5-acetylamino-2-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-dioxolane (21.3 g, >100%) as a brown solid.
