Procedure
A mixture of 7-chloro-1-methyl-4-oxo-1,4-dihydro-quinol-3-yl benzoate (3.45 g), piperidine (1.2 ml) and dichloromethane (100 ml) was stirred at ambient temperature for 2.5 days. The solvent was removed by distillation and the residue triturated with diethyl ether (100 ml) to give the novel compound 7-chloro-3-hydroxy-1-methyl-4-quinolone, m.p. 225°-228°.
