The hydrolysis of 5-n-butyl-2-[α-(carbomethoxy)benzyl]-2,4-dihydro-4-[[2'-(5-tetrazolyl)biphenyl-4-yl]methyl]-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one using methanolic sodium hydroxide in THF was carried out as described in Example 7. After work-up, the residue was flash chromatographed over silica gel (gradient elution with 4-30% MeOH/CH2Cl2) to give the title compound in 50% yield. This material was re-acidified with 1N HCl to pH 1.5, and the compound re-isolated to give a foam, homogeneous by TLC in 10% MeOH/CH2Cl2, mass spectrum (FAB) m/e 510 (M+1)+.
