Procedure
A solution of 1H-imidazole-4-acetic acid hydrochloride (4.00 g, 24.6 mmol) in methanol (100 ml) was saturated with gaseous hydrogen chloride. The resulting solution was allowed to stand at room temperature (RT) for 18 hours. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo to afford the title compound as a white solid.
