To a mixed solution (1:1) of 2.5 ml of 4N hydrochloric acid and acetic acid was added 600 mg of ethyl 1-[6-(t-butylamino)-3-chloro-5-fluoropyridine-2-yl]-8-chloro-6,7-difluoro-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylate, and the mixture was heated under reflux with stirring for 4.5 hours. After adding 2 ml of distilled water, the solution was allowed to cool and the precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with ethanol and diisopropylether successively to obtain 458 mg of the title compound as a pale yellow powder.
