To a solution of (2S, 4R) -2-carbamoyl-4-methane-sulfonyloxy-1- (4-nitrobenzyloxycarbonyl)pyrrolidine (7 g) in tetrahydrofuran (210 ml) was added 2,4-bis(4-methoxyphenyl) -1, 3-dithia-2,4-diphosphetane-2,4-disulfide (3.65 g) and the solution was stirred for 2 hours under refluxing. After the solvent was removed, the resulting oily residue was subjected to a column chromatography on silica gel (150 g) eluting with a mixture of n-hexane and ethyl acetate (2:3 V/V) to give (2S, 4R) -4-methanesulfonyloxy-1-(4-nitrobenzyloxycarbonyl) -2-thiocarbamoylpyrrolidine (5.55 g).
