Reaction Steps

The crude product from Step 1 was dissolved in methanol (1 litre) and reduced at room temperature over platinum oxide (5 g) with hydrogen at 120 p.s.i. (about 8.3×105Pa). After 21/2 h, the solution was filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by chromatography (silica; methanol) to give the product (2.5 g as an oil).
