To a solution of (1S,5R,6R,7R)-6-{(E)-4,4-difluoro-5-oxo-2-octenyl}-7-tetrahydropyranyloxy-2-oxabicyclo[3.3.0]octan-3-one (31) (5.57 g) in ethyl acetate was added 5% Pd/C (catalytic amount) and the resulting mixture was shaken under a hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature for 7 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the tile compound (32) as a crude product.
