6-Acetylamino-1-benzyl-4-methylhexahydro-1H-1,4-diazepine (20 g) is dissolved in ethanol (400 ml) and acetic acid (70 ml), and hydrogenated over 10% palladium on carbon (2 g) at about 50° C. After the calculated amount of the hydrogen is absorbed, the catalyst is filtered off. The filtrate is evaporated under reduced pressure to give acetate of the title compound (30 g) as an oil.
