Reaction Steps
1.0 g (3.4 mmol) ethyl 2-amino-4-phosphonomethyl-8-hydroxy-oct-3-enoate (Example 20) in 10 ml of water are refluxed, while stirring, for 48 hours. The reaction mixture is evaporated to dryness yielding after drying 0.58 g (64% yield) of 2-amino-4-phosphonomethyl-8-hydroxy-oct-3-enoic acid, m.p. 152°-155°.
