1-Methyl-1,2,3-triazol-4-carboxaldehyde (1 g, 9 mmol) was added to a solution of methoxycarbonylmethylene triphenylphosphorane (4.5 g, 13.5 mmol) in dichloromethane (50 ml) and stirred at room temperature for 3.5 hours. The solvent was removed and the residue purified by silica gel chromatography to afford the title compound, (3.2 g).
