A solution of (S)-(−)-3-(2-acetoxypropionylamino)-2-benzoyl-6-chloroindole (Example 58, 580 mg, 1.5 mmol) and potassium carbonate (2.0 g, 14 mmol) in ethanol (30 ml) and water (10 ml) was stirred for 2 h. The mixture was concentrated and extracted with ethyl acetate (50 ml×2). The organic extracts were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give a yellow amorphous solid. Recrystallization from ethyl acetate/hexane gave 420 mg (81%) of the title compound as a yellow solid.
