To a solution of 2.1 g (7.6 mmol) of 1-N-Benzyl-4-phenyl-4-aminomethylpiperidine and 1.2 mL of pyridine (15.2 mmol) and 20 mg of 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) in 20 mL of methylene chloride was added 2.6 g (15.2 mmol) of o-anisoyl chloride at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for 12 hr and was poured into 200 ml of ether. It was washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The residue was purified by chromatography (silica, hexanes: ethyl acetate, 1:4) to afford the title compound.
