A solution of 2-benzothiazolyl 2-[1-(phenylmethyl)-4-piperidinyl]vinyl ketone (146 mg, 0.4 mmol) in a mixture of ethyl acetate/ethanol (10 ml/10 ml) was treated with PtO2 (20 mg) and hydrogenated at 50 psi for 3 hours. The mixture was filtered through Celite® and the filtrate was concentrated to dryness to give 0.154 g of a dark oil. The oil was purified through silica gel column chromatography using chloroform as eluent to give 37 mg of the title compound as a brown oil.
