Procedure

To a solution of tert-butyl 6-bromo-2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-2,3,4,7,8,9-hexahydro-1H-cyclopenta[h]quinolin-3-one-1-carboxylate (1.0 g) obtained in Example 1, 8) in CH2Cl2 (10 ml) was added trifluoroacetic acid (10 ml), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The reaction solution was neutralized with 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, and the mixture was extracted with CHCl3. The organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, and dried over sodium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to normal phase chromatography (elution solvent hexane→hexane-ethyl acetate=7:3) to give the title compound (760 mg, 100%).
