To a suspension of LAH in diethyl ether was added a solution of 6-(2-phenylethyl)quinuclidin-3-one in THF, followed by heating under reflux for 4 hours. To the reaction mixture was added Na2SO4.10H2O, followed by stirring at room temperature for overnight. The reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was then concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain 6-(2-phenylethyl)quinuclidin-3-ol as a colorless oil.
