Procedure

(S)-tert-butyl 2-(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)-5,5-difluoroheptanoate (1 mmol) and TFA (5 mL) were stirred together at RT for 1 hr. The solvent was then removed and diethyl ether was added to precipitate out the solid, which was then filtered to give (S)-methyl 2-amino-5,5-difluoroheptanoate TFA salt.
