Procedure

2-trifluoromethylphenol (20.00 g) was dissolved in chloroform (160 mL), and triethylamine (34.0 mL) and acetic anhydride (12.4 mL) were added to the solution, and then the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure and water was added, and then the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, and then dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain the title compound (23.76 g) as a pale yellow oily substance.
