A solution of isopropyl 6-(2-hydroxypropan-2-yl)-3,4′-bipyridine-2′-carboxylate (140 mg, 0.47 mmol) in 1 M hydrochloric acid (2 mL) was heated at 100° C. overnight. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 6-(2-hydroxypropan-2-yl)-3,4′-bipyridine-2′-carboxylic acid hydrochloride salt as a white powder (106 mg, 87%). 259.1 (M+1).
