Prepared according to Procedure A using 2-amino-6-chlorobenzoic acid (1.0 g, 5.83 mmol) and SOCl2 (1.1 mL, 14.6 mmol) in benzene (30 mL), followed by o-toluidine (1.4 mL, 12.8 mmol) and CHCl3 (30 mL). The product was chromatographed in CH2Cl2 to provide 840 mg of an oily yellow solid (55%). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ: 7.96 (d, J=7.9 Hz, 1H); 7.60 (br s, 1H); 7.23-7.30 (m, 2H); 7.14 (t, J=7.5 Hz, 1H); 7.11 (t, J=8.3 Hz, 1H); 6.78 (d, J=7.9 Hz, 1H); 6.64 (d, J=8.2 Hz, 1H); 4.73 (br s, 2H); 2.35 (s, 3H). MS (ES): m/z 261.0 (M+).
